1803 Day-Date ‘Blue Magic’

Let me start by saying that the dial color on this 1803 Day-Date truly has a matte blue tone. Outside in the daylight hues of lilac and purple can also be seen, but the main color truly is blue. However, once we started photographing the watch indoors using bright white flashes, those colors magically disappeared and the end result was this grey, blue, lilac-ish color which absolutely looks killer! It quickly became clear that the nickname; 1803 Day-Date ‘Blue Magic’ had to be mandatory.

Blue dials are already a rare feature with vintage Rolex, but this here is next level! It nicely shows how many layers of color are hidden inside the original blue tone. The case on this beauty has been polished in the past and there’s a small crack in the Tritium in the minute hand – Nothing too shocking really and a attribute found more often on vintage Rolex’s then not. The blue dial remains in a good condition with little discoloration’s, usually blue dials from this era show gold colored spots and marks all over the dial due to the flaking of the paint – With this 1803 that luckily was kept to a bare minimum. The watch is worn on our brand new, WWH ‘Midnight Blue’ ton-sur-ton, Grained Calf strap with 18k yellow gold, vintage Rolex buckle. The day and date discs are still the original gold ones with all open 6’s and 9’s on the date-disc. All in all, this a stunning and probably one of a kind Rolex Day-Date. The vintage gold case and buckle have a nice warm and a slightly darker patinated glow to them, and again that dial…
