Love For The Datejust

At WatchWorks Haarlem, we love all things Rolex, but the Datejust first stole our hearts and remains very special to us. Early on in our careers, the position of the Datejust in the market was quite different from what it is now. Although a good and respected timepiece, the Datejust was still seen for what it was initially intended to be: the perfect everyday watch, sturdy and reliable.

Over the years, the appreciation in the market grew as an increasing number of collectors started to recognize the unique qualities of the Datejust. As being a Rolex, the Datejust is a stellar performer. Even now, with some models being half a century or even older, they still run as precisely as they should. Unlike many other vintage watches, it is unnecessary to be overly careful with it, as its sturdiness is not compromised by age. This allows you to enjoy the Datejust as intended and, in particular, appreciate all the little details.

One of the things we like so much about the Datejust collection is its versatility. With a plain bezel, silver sunburst dial, and Oyster bracelet, all in stainless steel, it is an entirely different timepiece when you get the exact reference in Rolesor (Rolex term for steel combined with gold), with a fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet, and a dark blue sunburst dial with diamond hour markers. As the Datejust collection is closing in on its 80th anniversary, even seeing the difference through time in the way the fluted bezel is made is something very appealing for any collector.

Today, the Datejust is a bright star in the universe of Rolex. Over the years, it has become one of the most recognizable timepieces in the world. While not such an elite creation as the Day-Date, or with the sportive appeal of a Submariner, the qualities of the Datejust is that they may not be either, but take the middle road. A Datejust seems at home with a tailored suit as it does with jeans and a sweater. This versatility on different levels makes it so that the Datejust remains a WatchWorks Haarlem favorite, of which we always have a few exceptional pieces in stock. Check them out here
