1601 “Black Out Linen”

We offered a few “Linen” dial Rolex’s before, but not in combination with a 1601 Datejust yet, that’s why we’re happy to offer this magnificent watch to you guys. However, the fun doesn’t stop there. This Linen dial also features so-called “Black Out” characteristics as well, meaning that all indices, including the opening of the hands are filled with a black shiny Lacquer finish and that there’s an absolute lack of Tritium on the entire dial (the latter is something we see more often on the so-called “Japan dial” Datejust models). This combination of basically three styles of vintage Rolex dials in one, makes this ’71 Datejust quite the looker and a rare watch at that.

Each of the hour-markers are so-called stick markers and each show a black shiny lacquered top, except for the twin hour-markers at the 6 and 9 o’clock positions, these are double the width and feature the black lacquered line running down the middle of the marker. By the way, those black lines aren’t that obvious until you hold the watch in an angle, then it all makes sense. Those black lines increase readability once the watch is on your wrist, its not loud but when you look down to check the time, all hours are clearly visible and it’s easy to read the correct time, all due to those wonderful black details. The original date-wheel features the so-called open 6 and 9 numerals which are very attractive to us watchnerds. The strong case remains in a great condition with four solid and thick lugs and a well shaped and sharp, 18k white gold fluted bezel. The stainless steel bracelet on this Rolex Datejust 1601 “Black Out Linen” is the original, 6251 folded jubilee bracelet with 55 end-links and remains in a very nice condition considering its age – al in all a very convincing vintage Datejust with a rare and impressive dial!

We’d like to welcome you to our showroom so you can experience this wonderful Datejust with your own two eyes. The watch and movement were fully serviced by our watchmakers according the strict Rolex factory specs, and this vintage Datejust will of course be delivered with our 24 month warranty.
