1601 Datejust “Sigma Charcoal”

Now here’s a vintage Rolex Datejust with a dial that will make your jaws drop, please believe me when I say that this dial is even better in real life with the most wonderful, Sunburst Charcoal appearance. This isn’t your average grey dial, This early seventies Sigma dial will show you anthracite to mouse-grey tones and everything in between. As always, capturing the correct colour on a dial through the camera’s lens is quite the challenge, especially using studio lighting, but take my word for it; this is one of the most stunning dials found on a vintage Datejust.

As mentioned the dial colour is best described as Charcoal, but from a sharp angle the dial appears black and when worn out in the sun, this Sigma charcoal dial lightens up to a light grey colour. The entire dial remains in spotless and excellent condition with all Tritium dots present and perfect – all have turned to an attractive yellow tone which matches wonderfully with the yellow tritium found inside the hands. Like all Sigma dials, the indices and hands on this example are also manufactured from 18k white gold. The case also remains in great condition with four solid and thick lugs and a razor-sharp 18k white gold fluted bezel. The steel bracelet on this 1601 Datejust ‘Sigma Charcoal’ is the original, 6251 folded jubilee bracelet with 55 end-links – This original bracelet remains in a good condition with a rare folding buckle, which is a cross-breeding between a Big Logo clasp and the more common ‘standard’ clasps normally found on vintage Datejust watches. All things considered, this truly is a one of a kind Datejust and one you won’t find anywhere else in this particular condition.
