1603 Datejust Sapphire Blue

When it comes to vintage Datejust watches, blue is one of the best and rarest hues available. The gorgeous, sapphire blue dial as seen in this vintage 1603 Datejust, is incredibly attractive and draws your interest each time you glance at the watch and dial, so much even that you constantly ask yourself, how can a dial be this beautiful!?

This dial shows either light or dark blue colors depending on the light source. When worn indoors, the blue dial evokes darkness yet clarity, and even though this dial is dominated by dark-blue tones, it will truly come to live in day and sunlight, showing bright blue hues reminiscent of the color of natural sapphire gemstones; what an absolute stunner! This incredible color is only reinforced by the warm, yellow golden hour-markers and hands; the combination of both is very attractive and also rare to find. This configuration of golden hour markers and golden hands inside a stainless steel model, is frequently observed in vintage Datejust timepieces, specifically produced for the Middle Eastern market during the 1970’s and 1980’s. This 1603 has a sturdy case with strong lugs and the original engine-turned bezel. As always the devil is in the details, that’s why we also like to point out that the Tritium dots at the end of the golden markers are the same color as the Tritium inside the golden hands. The dial shows some spotting in certain areas, mainly visible on the outer edge of the pie-pan design; After nearly 50 years, this spotting has turned to a purple/brownish color. However very clear in the photographs, it is much less clear when the watch is worn on the wrist. The 62510H Jubilee bracelet shows a B stamped clasp code which is in line with a 1977 production date – a nice match.
