Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT
When Bulgari introduced the first Octo Finissimo in 2014, it redefined how ultra-slim watches looked. For close to a century, these were small dress watches crafted from precious metal. The Octo Finissimo was quite the opposite, combining a sandblasted titanium case of a generous diameter with a very expressive design in a monochrome color theme. After the success of the first automatic time-only model, Bulgari ambitiously expanded the collection and introduced in 2019 the Chronograph GMT.
In 2021 this model was joined by a new version, featuring a black dial for better contrast and fitted with an integrated rubber strap. As a result, this is the lightest version of the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT that Bulgari has ever made. One can compare it to the Superleggera versions of Lamborghini’s and Aston Martin’s, where things have been put on point just that little bit more by adding lightness. The rubber strap makes the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT very comfortable to wear and goes great with the black dial. It also highlights the complex and unique shape of the case. The original design of the Octo was penned down by legendary watch designer Gérald Genta which was further refined by Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Director of Bulgari Watches Design Center, for the Octo Finissimo.
While there are now even more complex versions of the Octo Finissimo, the Chronograph GMT remains one of the most popular mainly because it combines two desirable complications. The buttons to operate them are also ingeniously integrated into the design. The chronograph pushers act as crown guards on the watch’s right side while they are balanced on the left with a button to set the second time zone. As is to be expected is also the movement that powers this Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT a true powerhouse, which can be admired through the sapphire insert in the titanium caseback. It is a mere 3.3mm high, beautifully finished, and equipped with technical delicacies such as a column wheel for the exact operation of the chronograph function and a peripheral oscillating weight. To ensure winding efficiency, it is set with a platinum insert engraved with the Bulgari name. A single mainspring barrel provides the watch with a generous 55-hour power reserve. Thanks to this incredible movement, the overall height of the 42mm large Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT is a record-breaking 6.9mm. This is simply modern watchmaking at its finest.
