GMT-Master 16700 B&P
We managed to get our hands on another beautiful, full set Rolex GMT-Master with reference 16700. This one has an attractive inlay where the red part of the ‘pepsi’ bezel shows a full blown fading. The watch was sold in 1998 by a Dutch Rolex retailer in The Hague and is accompanied by the original inner and outer box, punched warranty, booklets, hangtags and spare links to the 78360 Oyster bracelet.
U-serial GMT’s are known for the fact that the dial is marked with the SWISS-T<25 printing below the six o’clock position, when in fact all luminous material is luminova, including the hands. These are older dials that were used around the time Rolex started the transition from Tritium to Luminova and it was probably more cost efficient to use the older dials first, before producing brand new ones. This anomaly only occurred during the production of the U serial, that makes this a rare piece and a great buy if you’re also considering buying a Rolex watch as a future vintage investment. The value of this particular reference GMT has exploded since its inception in 1988, and since the 16700 reference was discontinued in 1999, I would say this full set watch is a pretty safe investment for the future. She remains in an excellent condition with a strong case and solid 78360 Oyster bracelet, that extremely faded Pepsi insert gives this neo-vintage GMT a bold and captivating look with a clean and spotless, black gloss dial and bright red, GMT arrow hand. This already very complete GMT also is accompanied by a full black 24 hour insert, two spare links (so full 13 link bracelet) and 2021 WatchWorks service papers (WWH service rapport).
We’d like to welcome you to our showroom so you can experience this wonderful GMT-Master with your own two eyes. As mentioned, the entire movement was serviced in 2021 but visited our watchmakers two weeks ago for another full check-up. As always, this GMT will be sold with our 24 month warranty.
