ROLEX DAY-DATE ‘BARK’ 1807

First let’s talk about how rare an 1807 ‘Bark’ vintage Day-Date actually is, to be clear I’m talking about the ones with acrylic crystal and pie-pan dials. Well, for about every one hundred ‘standard’ 1803 vintage Day-Dates with gold President bracelet, about five 1807’s with gold ‘Bark’ President bracelet and ‘Bark’ bezel can be found. Add a non-gold, gorgeous ash grey dial to the mix, along with a sharp case, near stretch free ‘Bark’ president bracelet and unpolished bezel, and you get an idea about how rare this Day-Date is which we’re offering here.

We sold this watch before, about a year and a half ago. After a long and hard thought, the previous owner decided to trade it as part of a rare Submariner purchase. The watch its gold case, bracelet and bezel haven’t been ultra sonically cleaned and/or polished in some time now (just a movement serviced was executed) making the gold appear more dark, it almost has a copper like tone in certain conditions. This is sometimes referred to as gold tarnishing. Gold tarnishing is the slight corrosion of the gold surface and is evident as a darker discoloration of the gold item, also called a tarnish film. In extreme conditions the gold can turn completely black, as we’ve seen with certain very rare watches at the big auction houses in Geneva. To me personally this darker (copper) tone is absolutely gorgeous, making this vintage Day-Date with its lovely warm glow truly a joy to wear, and ultimately the reason we decided not to polish and/or ultra sonically clean the watch. Just a non-chemical cleaning was performed on the watch to make it fresh and clean for the new owner.

If you, as the future new owner of this watch, do decide to have it cleaned and polished, we’d be more than happy to help you. But please, wear it as it is right now, you won’t be disappointed! As mentioned the watch received a full movement service and will be delivered with a 12 month warranty.
