Rolex Explorer 16570 “Polar”

Rolex introduced the Explorer II with reference 16570 in 1989, the watch was manufactured for 22 years and as such, this particular reference underwent several changes over the course of its production run. The Explorer II we’re offering here is a 16570 ‘Polar’ from 1998 and nicknamed this way due to the crisply white dial. That white Swiss-T<25 dial features Tritium filled indices with also the original Tritium hands-set to match, both show a wonderful off-white/eggshell toned patina.

In our humble opinion these examples of the 16570 Explorer II with pinhole case, Tritium indices and hands, and the previous style Oyster bracelet are the best ones to look out for if you’re interested in buying a neo-vintage, Rolex sports watch. Considering that 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Explorer II, it’s probably not a bad idea to pick one of these early, five digit Tritium Explorers up. Right now this is the most ‘affordable’ five digit sports Rolex compared to a Submariner or GMT for instance, and prices will only continue to increase. Our Rolex Explorer II 16570 features a nice and fat case with strong lugs and a very well conditioned 78360 Oyster bracelet with hardly any stretch. The white Polar dial is spotless and all the hands, date-disc and 24 hour stainless steel bezel are original to the watch. As mentioned, the tritium inside the indices is showing an attractive off-white/eggshell colour, enough so to create a wonderful contrast with that dazzling white, Polar dial.

This true Rolex Toolwatch was fully serviced by our watchmakers and will be sold with a 24 month warranty. We’d like to invite you to our showroom so you can view this Explorer II with your own two eyes – Coffee’s always on!
