Rolex GMT-Master 16700

The reference 16700 was introduced to the market in 1988 when it replaced the Rolex GMT-Master with reference 16750. Back then, the 16700 was cheaper when compared to the 16710 which was introduced around 1989. A question we get asked often is what exactly is the big difference between the 16700 and the 16710? Well, it is the movement inside the watch. You see, the 16700 was fitted with caliber 3175 and featured the non-independant hour-hand. The 16710 was fitted with caliber 3185 and did feature the independent hour-hand, but in our humble opinion the 16700 with its non-independant hour-hand is a bit more easy to work with as the date on the watch is set via the ‘normal’ quick-set feature you are used to seeing with any other five digit Rolex watch, featuring a date function (are you still with me). As you may know, to set the date on the 16710 GMT with its 3185 movement, the hour-hand needs to do a full 24 hour rotation before the date can be changed/set.

But let’s get back to the 16700 we’re offering here. This neo-vintage GMT-Master is a relatively early model, with it’s N serial number the watch dates back to 1991 and remains in extremely good conditions for its age. It features a gorgeous and spotless, black glossy dial, thick and sharp case, and by the looks of it, a still unpolished and very sharp stainless steel rotatable bezel. The Oyster bracelet very much looks the part and shows minimal stretch with a clean Oyster buckle. The 11 Tritium filled, white gold indices on top of the black dial show a wonderfully aged vanilla colored Tritium (in real life this color is warmer than in any of the photo’s) the Tritium filled hands show a lighter tone which is best described as an eggshell toned color. The all black, 24 hour insert fitted on this GMT shows numerals with a small serif and is free from any damages or scratches. All things considered, this double black neo-vintage GMT shows a bold and captivating look with its bright red GMT arrow-hand to let you know its complex nature.

We’d like to invite you to our HQ so you can experience this wonderful Rolex GMT-Master 16700 with your own two eyes. As mentioned, the entire movement was serviced by our watchmakers and the watch will be sold with our extensive 24 month warranty.
