ROLEX OP – OCC GILT DIAL

Let’s start by mentioning that the reference 6084 is the same Rolex reference that Sir Edmund Hillary had on him after reaching the top of Mount Everest – It’s an important watch when it comes to Rolex’s history. The 6084 is part of the so-called ‘Bubbleback’ or ‘Ovettone’ (Italian for Big Egg) family. Nicknames used for the Vintage case styles from the 1930s to 1950s with a distinctively domed case-back to accommodate the automatic winding rotor. These watches were very populair with watch collectors during the 80’s and 90’s, and after years of non-interest, the Bubbleback watches are making their comeback, with collectors in Asia already buying the best examples.

This 1953 manufactured, reference 6084 is such a beautiful watch! These references are almost only found with matte white or creamy dials, but this gloss black Gilt dial example is in a league of it’s own – There isn’t another available anywhere at the moment! About that black dial; The original black Gilt dial is decorated with beautiful arrowhead hour-markers, of these markers the 3, 6 and 9 marker are bigger and filled with a small triangle of Radium for better readability in low light conditions. All other, but smaller arrowhead hour-markers have all Radium dots present, and all are very active when hit with a UV torch or sun light. The original and elegant Gilt Leaf Hands were without the Radium, but these have been re-lumed with Tritium to match the overall style of the watch.

Now, let’s get to the Gilt part; the outer closed minute track and the printing ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL is printed on top of the gloss black paint with an extraordinary warm copper tone paint, the OFFICIALY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER (OCC) wordings are actually done in the Gilt printing technique – A wonderful combination of world class dial manufacturing by Rolex! Worth mentioning is that at certain angles there are already some hints of brown visible on this amazing gilt dial, I won’t go as far as to call it a Tropical dial yet, but important to mention nonetheless. This entire 6084 Bubbleback Rolex has been fully serviced and will be sold with a twelve month warranty.
