‘Ultra Holy Grail’ Italian Market Speedmaster

The Omega Speedmaster model 376.0822, also known as the ‘Ultra Holy Grail’ among collectors and Omega enthusiasts, is an exceptionally rare wristwatch with an intriguing backstory. Omega combined the warmth and luxury of 18K yellow gold with the toughness of stainless steel to manufacture this Speedmaster for the watch-nut market of Italy, during the late 1980s. The 42mm casing not only provides robustness but also emanates sophistication, making it a suitable companion for both formal and casual settings. Not to mention you’ll be that one person in the room wearing one of the most rare watches ever manufactured by Omega.

One of the most enticing aspects of this Holy Grail Speedmaster is its limited availability. This timepiece was produced in a numbered and limited edition of only 200 pieces! This of course adds an element of exclusivity and rarity to the watch: Knowing that your timepiece is one of only a limited number in existence, enhances the sense of ownership and connection to Omega’s heritage.

The following information is made available by watchbooksonly; “In the mid 1980s, the Italian market (and maybe the international market too) was not so easy for the Speedmaster, and the local Sales Director was continuously searching for new ideas in order to enhance the sales. He proposed a few series of steel and gold watches based on the standard steel models but fitted with specific black and gold dials, specific black small hands (improving the legibility on the gold sub-dials), solid gold bezels and gold plated crowns and pushers” In regard to the 376.0822 reference, Omega was set to release 1 series of Ultra Holy Grail watches (numbered 1 to 200) these watches (like the one offered here) were all assembled in March and July of 1988. “All these watches were delivered by OMEGA to SMH Italia as standard steel versions. They were then personalized locally by an Italian watchmaker, who was responsible for replacing the standard dials, hands, bezels, crowns, and pushers by the specific ones (those parts being sent separately by OMEGA). Also important; Managing/engraving the individual numbering of the watches (actually the watches were not engraved by the watchmaker, but by another local supplier). Interesting information is that the watches arrived in Italy without any bracelets. A specific leather band was fitted locally” It is known that these models were all sold to Italy and it is interesting to note that all the watches we have observed so far have an English calendar (day and date disc). The matte black dial with its golden, circular engraved sub-dials, the perfect and lovingly aged tritium, different types of sub-dial hands, the 5 minute indication on the inside of each hour marker.. Every feature about this Speedmaster ensures one-of-a-kindness and extraordinary rarity. There really is no other Speedmaster like it.
